UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals: Last Night’s Drama Reviewed, Plus Tonight’s Blockbuster Second Legs
The UEFA Champions League 2025–26 campaign is delivering drama on an almost nightly basis. Tuesday’s double-header produced two gripping contests as Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid booked their places in the semi-finals. While Wednesday brings another pair of mouthwatering second legs that could reshape the European landscape entirely. Here is your complete review of last night’s action, plus full previews and predictions for tonight’s fixtures.
Last Night’s Results: Tuesday, April 14
Liverpool 0–2 PSG : Anfield
PSG advance 4–0 on aggregate
Anfield was supposed to ignite. Red flares greeted the PSG team bus. The crowd was in full voice, and Arne Slot had promised to “take risks.” But once again, Liverpool’s Champions League journey ended with a whimper at the hands of a Paris Saint-Germain side. Who sealed a dominant 4–0 aggregate victory to reach the semi-finals.
The tie briefly flickered into life midway through the second half. A comeback looked possible when referee Maurizio Mariani pointed to the spot for a foul on Alexis Mac Allister, only for VAR to overturn the decision. That proved to be Liverpool’s last real opening.
Ousmane Dembélé then took over. He opened the scoring in the 72nd minute with a low, curling finish before adding a second in stoppage time from a Bradley Barcola assist to seal the tie emphatically.
There was also a blow on the injury front, with Hugo Ekitike suffering a serious Achilles injury that is expected to sideline him long-term. PSG now continue their pursuit of a rare Champions League defence something only Real Madrid have achieved in the modern era (2016–2018).
Were our predictions right?
Our preview leaned toward a Liverpool win on the night but PSG progressing and while the Parisians were even more dominant than expected, the key call of PSG advancing proved correct.
Atletico Madrid 1–2 Barcelona : Metropolitano
Atletico advance 3–2 on aggregate
The tie of the night. Atlético Madrid reached their first Champions League semi-final since 2017, squeezing past FC Barcelona 3–2 on aggregate despite a tense 2–1 home defeat that had the Metropolitano crowd holding its breath until the final whistle.
Teen sensation Lamine Yamal struck early, capitalising on a defensive error to give Barcelona the lead inside four minutes. Ferran Torres doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, finishing clinically after being played through by Dani Olmo, levelling the tie on aggregate.
Atlético responded with typical grit. Marcos Llorente drove down the right and delivered a low cross that Ademola Lookman turned home in the 31st minute to restore their aggregate lead.
Barcelona dominated possession after the break. And had a third goal ruled out for offside, but their task became harder when Eric Garcia was sent off late on. Atlético held firm to secure their place in the last four.
Were our predictions right?
We called Atlético to advance 3–2 on aggregate — spot on. The only difference? It was settled inside 90 minutes rather than extra time.
Tonight’s Fixtures: Wednesday, April 15
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid : Allianz Arena, 9pm CET
First leg: Bayern 2–1 Real Madrid
Aggregate: Bayern lead 2–1
The most storied rivalry in Champions League knockout history resumes in Munich. Bayern Munich claimed a 2–1 win at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Harry Kane and company putting themselves in control of the tie.
Bayern arrive in strong form domestically and look sharp in attack, with Vincent Kompany managing his squad smartly ahead of this decisive clash. Kane is expected to start despite a minor fitness concern.
Real Madrid, however, are never out of these ties. Even with inconsistent league form, the presence of Kylian Mbappé means Los Blancos remain a genuine threat. European nights have a habit of bringing the best out of them.
Our Prediction: Bayern Munich 2–1 Real Madrid (Bayern advance 4–2 on aggregate)
Bayern’s home advantage and attacking consistency give them the edge, but writing off Madrid in this competition is always dangerous.
Arsenal vs Sporting CP : Emirates Stadium, 9pm CET
First leg: Arsenal 1–0 Sporting CP
Aggregate: Arsenal lead 1–0
Arsenal FC hold a narrow advantage heading into the second leg after a late winner in Lisbon.
Kai Havertz was the hero in the first leg, finishing in stoppage time after good work from Gabriel Martinelli. That goal could prove decisive.
Sporting CP, though, have already shown their resilience in this competition. Their comeback in the previous round underlines the threat they carry, especially if they score first in London.
Arsenal will need a response after a shaky domestic result. But under Mikel Arteta they’ve been composed and efficient in Europe all season.
Our Prediction: Arsenal 2–0 Sporting CP (Arsenal advance 3–0 on aggregate)
Expect control, discipline, and another big European night at the Emirates.
Semi-Final Picture
PSG will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the semi-finals, while Atlético Madrid await either Arsenal or Sporting CP.
The 2026 Champions League final is set for May 30 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. If results go as predicted, a PSG vs Bayern semi-final looms — a clash between elite attacking firepower and ruthless efficiency.
All eyes tonight are on Munich and north London. The road to Budapest runs through them.
