Investec Champions Cup Quarter-Finals 2026: Everything to Know as European Rugby Heats Up

The Investec Champions Cup quarter-finals 2026 are here, and European club rugby doesn’t get much bigger than this. Four massive knockout clashes across the weekend promise everything physicality up front, skill out wide, and moments that can define seasons.
Before getting into the fixtures, though, there’s one talking point South African rugby fans are still fuming about the Stormers in France.
Were the Stormers Robbed in Toulon?
The Stormers suffered a heartbreaking 28-27 defeat to RC Toulon in their Champions Cup Round of 16 clash at Stade Mayol. It was a top-quality performance from the Cape side but the result left more questions than answers.
From a South African perspective, there’s no doubt the Stormers have every right to feel hard done by. They were denied multiple potential tries, including a late effort from Adré Smith, another from Ntuthuko Mchunu, and a big call around a possible penalty try from a dominant maul. In knockout rugby, those moments are everything.
The biggest controversy came right at the death. Referee Christophe Ridley ruled no try on-field, which meant the TMO needed clear evidence to overturn it and none was available. That decision alone effectively ended the match. Director of rugby John Dobson questioned several calls, including a moment where Charles Ollivon appeared offside in the build-up to the final play.
Even former international Dan Biggar weighed in, suggesting Toulon were fortunate not to concede a penalty try earlier in the game. There were also small margins from the Stormers themselves. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu admitted after the match that a drop goal never crossed his mind despite being well within range late on.
In the end, it’s a tough one to swallow, but the Stormers once again showed that South African rugby can go toe-to-toe with Europe’s best.
Friday 10 April. Bath vs Northampton Saints
The quarter-finals kick off with an all-English clash as Bath Rugby host Northampton Saints at The Rec. Bath had to fight back to beat Saracens, while Northampton also came through a tough test against Castres Olympique. Bath’s backline has serious firepower, with Henry Arundell, Joe Cokanasiga and Ollie Lawrence all capable of breaking games open. That said, Northampton’s experience in knockout rugby including last season’s run to the final makes them a real threat.
Prediction: Bath edge it at home, but it won’t be straightforward.
Saturday 11 April. Glasgow Warriors vs Toulon
From a South African point of view, all eyes will be on this one. RC Toulon arrive in Scotland still under the spotlight after their controversial win over the Stormers, while Glasgow Warriors knocked out the Bulls. Glasgow are chasing a historic semi-final and have been strong all season, especially at home. Scotstoun is never an easy place to go.
Toulon, however, bring serious pedigree. Ben White controlled things well last week and will again be key. For Glasgow, everything runs through Finn Russell. When he’s on, he can unlock any defence in world rugby.
Prediction: Slight edge to Toulon, but Glasgow at home are dangerous.
Saturday 11 April. Leinster vs Sale Sharks
Leinster Rugby remains one of the standout teams in the Investec Champions Cup 2026, and they head into this clash unbeaten. They face Sale Sharks, who come in full of confidence after an impressive away win over Harlequins.
The Aviva Stadium on a big European night is something special, and Leinster’s depth across the park is hard to match. Players like Hugo Keenan consistently step up in these moments.
Prediction: Leinster to progress comfortably.
Sunday 12 April. Bordeaux Bègles vs Toulouse
This is the headline fixture of the weekend. Union Bordeaux Bègles take on Stade Toulousain in a heavyweight French showdown. Bordeaux will take confidence from last season’s results, but Toulouse are always a different beast in Europe.
All eyes will be on Antoine Dupont arguably the best scrumhalf in the world who can take over a game in an instant. Bordeaux’s danger man remains Louis Bielle-Biarrey, whose pace out wide can punish any defensive lapse.
Prediction: Bordeaux narrowly at home, but this could go either way.
Road to the Semi-Finals
The road to San Mamés Stadium is heating up, and the Investec Champions Cup knockout stages are delivering exactly what fans expect.
For South African supporters, there’s still disappointment after the Stormers’ exit but also pride in the way they competed.
Now, attention turns to the quarter-finals. Four matches, eight teams, and everything on the line.
This is where the Champions Cup 2026 really comes alive.
