The Betway Premiership title race is properly heating up now, and this past weekend delivered exactly the kind of drama you’d expect at this stage of the season. Orlando Pirates made a big statement, Kaizer Chiefs kept their unbeaten momentum ticking over, and Sunday threw in a proper curveball result just to keep things interesting.

With the business end of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season looming, every point is starting to feel like gold.

Weekend Results: Round 25

Pirates Back on Top

The headline act belongs to Orlando Pirates, who delivered one of their most complete performances in weeks with a convincing 3-0 win over AmaZulu FC.

The Buccaneers looked sharp from the start, controlling the tempo and taking their chances well. Youngster Relebohile Mofokeng was once again influential, while the attack showed the kind of cutting edge that’s been missing at times this season.

The result sees Pirates move to the top of the PSL standings, but and it’s a big but Mamelodi Sundowns still have games in hand. So ja, top of the log for now, but this race is far from settled.

For AmaZulu, it’s a setback at the worst possible time, especially with the top-three battle tightening.

Chiefs Held, But Unbeaten Run Continues

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 0-0 draw by Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Not the result Amakhosi would’ve wanted, but it does extend their unbeaten run and at this stage of the season, consistency counts. Chiefs remain firmly in the mix for a top-three finish, and more importantly, they’re proving difficult to beat.

It’s not always pretty, but it’s effective.

Gallants and Siwelele Share the Spoils

The Free State clash between Marumo Gallants and Bloemfontein Celtic (Siwelele) ended in a goalless draw. One of those games where both sides cancel each other out.

Gallants will feel the pressure with the relegation picture still very real, while Siwelele continue to scrap for every point in a tough campaign.

Golden Arrows Boost Top-Eight Push

Lamontville Golden Arrows picked up a valuable 2-1 win over Orbit College FC.

Abafana Bes’thende are doing what they always seem to do quietly putting together results and staying right in the hunt for a top-eight finish.

Magesi’s Stunning Upset

Sunday delivered the shock of the round, with Magesi FC producing a massive performance to claim a 5-2 win over Durban City FC.

For a side fighting at the bottom, that’s not just three points. That’s a statement. It could be the result that kickstarts their survival push.

Elsewhere, Richards Bay FC picked up a crucial win in their push for a top-eight finish, showing once again how tight that mid-table battle really is.

The Title Race: Not So Simple

Calling it a straight two-horse race might be a bit premature but let’s be honest, it’s heading that way.

Orlando Pirates have the points on the board. Mamelodi Sundowns have the games in hand and the experience of serial winners.

Sundowns are still chasing what would be a remarkable ninth consecutive league title, and they’ve built a reputation for getting the job done when it matters most.

Pirates, though, have momentum. And belief.

The goal difference could still play a role, and Pirates’ recent scoring form might give them a slight edge there but realistically, it’s going to come down to who handles pressure best in the final stretch.
